17 May 08, Lyndhaven Spring Schola, Lyndhaven

Show just this event

http://www.eastkingdom.info/lyndhaven/spring_schola/index.html

After the exhausting task of holding a major event, now is the time for us to kick back, relax, and enjoy a day of gentle art.

The Lyndhaven Spring Schola is a day event, this year. (Next year it will return to being a weekend event.) See the class schedule on the event's web site. Following the classes, there will be a "coordinated pot-luck" feast with entertainment and (hopefully!) dancing.

Directions:

From east or west, take exit 303 off of the Trans Canada highway into Oromocto. Turn right at the top of the ramp, and head north on Miramichi Avenue. Continue straight through the first two traffic circles, and straight through the four-way stop at the intersection of St. John Avenue. At the third traffic circle, take the 3 o'clock exit onto St. Lawrence Avenue. Continue on St. Lawrence, heading east, until you reach the main gate of CFB Gagetown (about 800 m).

Enter the main gate, and continue straight on Tilley Road (St. Lawrence becomes Tilley) all the way to the end. Turn left onto Ganong Road. The base gym should be on your right.

Continue on Ganong Road until you see the sign for the Argonaut Cadet Camp on your right. Turn onto the Argonaut road. Drive to the very end of this road, past the cadet camp, and keep driving when the road turns to gravel. At the very end is the Lindsay Valley Lodge.

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Sharpen your foils!
Practice your parries!
Lengthen your lunges!

Our illustrious and very innocent Meistr Gruffyd will soon test your ability in his Baronial Rapier Championship Tournament. Stay tuned to the Ruantallan list for details as he may post them. Don’t forget to send your letter of intent to both Meistr Gruffyd and T.E. Baron Lachlan and Baroness Janet. (baron@ruantallan.org)

Lady Sorcha the Red is preparing a delectable feast for all!! The menu will be posted as soon as it is available.

Master Gilbert has been furiously organizing youth boffer fighting! He assures us he will wear something to make him stand out from the throngs of Ruantallan Youth.

Mistress Elise has confirmed a wonderful shooting space on site for our Baronial Archery Champion to test out his evil plans (oops!) some ideas for both adults and children in preparation of the upcoming archery tournament at War Camp. Lord Algernon will also be available for Royal Rounds.

For those wishing to avoid marshals all together, H.E. Mistress Gwen and Mistress Bess have graciously agreed to teach some textile (A & S) classes. Specific details will follow shortly.

Lady Margaret and Lady Isa will be leading the charge with the children in "Calligraphy and Illumination for Kids."

We have a few other surprises up our sleeves, but if we told you about them they wouldn’t be surprises now would they!

Make sure you come or we’ll talk about you!!

Register Soon!!!

A Non-Member Surcharge (NMS) of $3 will be added to the fee of each adult attendee who is not a member of SCA Inc.

20-22 Jun 08, Midsummer Gathering, Smithwick (Houlton, ME)

Show just this event

Unto the good Gentles of the East, let it be known that the Shire of Smithwick invites all to our Annual Summer Event - this year we will once again be at the site with the Viking Longhouse (an authentic iron-age aisle post hall). The date is set for Friday June 20th through Sunday June 22nd, 2008 in the mundane lands of Houlton in Northern Maine (at the very end of I 95). Site fees will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for those 6 – 17 with children under 6 free. A discount of $3.00 per person will be extended to all adult SCA members. Please present your membership card when checking into the site.

Primitive camping is available for those seeking the weekend stay. Fresh running cold water will be available as well as outbuildings for relief. Camp stoves and grills are recommended however aboveground self-contained fire pits will be allowed this year. They must have a spark screen, the owner must have a fire extinguisher (water barrels will be provided), and the fire must not be left unattended. No pets please and the site is discretely damp.

Included in the site fee will be an evening repast of hearty beef and barley stew (subject to change at the discretion of the cook but it will still be some form of stew). This will be cooked in a cauldron inside the Viking Longhouse and all are welcome to visit the cook to watch. After dinner there will be music by Northern Caravans and/or Widdershinns followed by a chance to show your talents at an open Bardic Circle.

There will be scheduled classes (these will be posted at the gate and in the Longhouse), archery, heavy weapons combat, thrown weapons, and perhaps even another embroidery challenge this year since that has proven popular!

Merchants as welcome and encouraged. Please be sure to bring any display tables, etc. you may need as there are none available at the site.

Children are welcome however there are no structured activities planned for them. As always, parents are responsible for their own children.

Directions:

From South in U.S.: make your best way to Interstate 95 into (or from) Maine. Follow that until you reach Houlton and take exit 302 (toward Presque Isle). Turn left at the end of the exit ramp and follow Route 1 through the first stoplight and turn left shortly thereafter at the Family Dollar Store. See ** Below

From the Maritime Provinces of Canada: make your best way to TransCanada Route 2 and follow it (north or south) to the exit for Canada Route 95 (which leads to the Houlton border crossing). Once across the border you will be on US Route 95. Follow it until you reach exit 302 (toward Presque Isle). Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and follow Route 1 through the first stoplight and turn left shortly thereafter at the Family Dollar Store. See ** Below.

From the North and West of Maine: make your best way to Route 1 South toward Houlton. Once in Houlton you will slow to 50 MPH and pass the State Police barracks on your right. After passing this you will come to a section of Route 1 where there are three large gas stations (two left and one right) - there is a stop light in this section of the road before you get to the on ramp for Interstate 95. You want to turn right at the Family Dollar Store BEFORE you get to this stoplight. See ** Below.

** Once on the B Rd you will travel approx. 3 miles and turn right onto Back Ridge Rd. You will then travel a short distance to the driveway on the right (1st one) – follow the signs on the property to get to the event field.
